If youhope that something is true, or if youhope for something, you want it to be true or to happen, and you usually believe that it is possible or likely.

  1. hope用作动词的基本意思是“希望”“期望”,指热切、专心致志地对未来的、积极的、崇高的、一些好的或有利的结果的盼望,含有一定的主观性,相信其可能实现。
  2. hope既可用作及物动词,也可用作不及物动词。用作及物动词时,其后一般接动词不定式或宾语从句,但不能接名词、动名词作宾语,也不能接复合宾语; 用作不及物动词时,常与介词for连用表示“对…抱有希望”。
  3. hope接动词不定式的完成体也是表达将来时间。
  4. hope所接的that从句中的谓语多由will〔may〕+ v. 构成, that可省略。在对话中常可用so或not代替前面句子中肯定式或否定式的宾语(动词不定式或that从句)。
  5. hope作“希望”解,本身即指将来,所以在hope的宾语从句中常可用一般现在时表示将来时间,一般不与be going to连用。
  6. hope不是转移否定动词,表示否定意义时,否定词可放在主句中,也可放在从句中,但意义不同,用so或not代替时亦如此。注意can't but hope的意思是“只能希望”。
